Hoppumm
Hoppumm.
A cross between the Sri Lankan hopplers and the Indian appum, is what we call hoppumm. Hoppumm is a cheeky play on a drink Lankan Hopper and a south Indian appam which essentially looks and taste the same.
I remember trying the food from this brand at few pop ups that they use to do and they were pretty famous in the pop up circuit. Due to the immense popularity and demand they have opened their own store in the bylanes of Pali hill ( Bandra West )
The space is tiny with around 5 tables and few high chairs. They have divided the store into two sections, The indoor section which has one table and few high Chairs has an air conditioning and have four tables outside. The interiors are basic but super neat.
The food is casual and comforting and you have visited Sri Lanka then it would remind you of the street food you get in for example Colombo. This place has more meaty options and the vegetarians have to live with ordering dishes which are majority paneer based which sadly don't have the same punch and flavours as the meat dishes.
As of now the hoppumm is a hidden gem, once it becomes a bit popular then I won't be surprised if this gives the pizza burger brigade a run for their money as the hoppums are much healthier than the junk food which we consume and the hoppums are tasty too. You can have it for breakfast, lunch , dinner whenever you wish to.
So let's now talk about what all I ate.
As Soon as I entered the outlet and opened the menu, I ordered for
- Alam Neer
- Lemon Sharbat
To beat the Bombay heat.
Then I ordered two yummy appetizers
- SriLankan Mutton Roll
- Chicken 65
I totally loved both the appetizers.
After having the yummy appetizers and increasing my expectations I was ready to binge on to the mains. So I ordered the below
- Prawns Moilee with String hoppers ( THE BEST. )
- Mutton pepper fry with kottu roti
- Ceylon roasted chicken with traditional hopper.
- Egg chilli cheese with spinach hopper.
After loving such a lovely meal, it would be a crime not to end such a lovely meal on a sweet note. So I ordered
- Coconut milk + Jaggery.
My mom loved this so much, I have never seen my mom enjoy something so much.
The restaurant manager yogesh sukhtankar was the man behind the choices I made. He guided me with what all I should try and what combos should I have.
Certainly on my top5 places to visit in Bombay.
